  3. K-5 Mathematics Precision Review

  4. Comments received during 90 days of posting from: • Teachers • Curriculum Coordinators • Parents • Higher education faculty • CRCT item review teacher teams • About 100 stakeholders

  5. General theme of comments: • Language clarification • More specificity • Gaps in vertical alignment of content • Decimal fractions

  6. Edit at every grade levels: • Inserted statement with regards to vocabulary in each terms and symbols box at the end of the standards • Aligned vocabulary listed in the terms and symbols boxes for each grade level

  7. Edits at K-2 grade levels: • Kindergarten: • Added specificity and clarity to language • Changed no basic content • First: • Added some clarity of language • Changed place value notation from 1 to 100 into 1 to 99 • Included height under measurement • Second: • Added some clarity of language • Added number of seconds in a minute to measurement • Added pyramids to the list of solid geometric figures

Edits at 3rd and 4th grade levels: • Third: • Added clarity of language • Extended and clarified difference between common fractions and decimal fractions • Aligned title of Data Analysis and Probability • Fourth: • Clarified difference between decimal fractions and decimals • Added sum of angles of a triangle are 180 degrees to measurement • Added use of nets in geometry, added range, mode, and median to data strand • Aligned title of Data Analysis and Probability

  9. Edits at 5th grade: • Added clarification of language • Aligned all work with decimals • Added derivation of formula for the area of a circle • Included circumference in perimeter standard, added mean to data strand • Aligned title of Data Analysis and Probability

  10. Mathematics Implementation Specialist • Four slots were opened by OPB • Two will be for metro region • One already hired to work in Region 3 • One already hired to work in Region 1 • Still accepting applications and interviewing for Region 2 and 4

  11. Assessing Success in Mathematics • One day session for 8th grade teachers • One day session for 9th grade teachers • Address make up of CRCT and EOCT • Address appropriate use of Coach Books • Suggest best practices

  12. Mathematics I Mid-term Be looking for a memo from Dr. Sue Snow regarding the availability of a mathematics I mid-term. It will be posted through OAS and have a two-week window of opportunity for your teachers and students. More information coming soon. Sending a few practice questions for units 1 and 2.
