  1. Biofuels and Biomass Briquettes By: Savannah Dotterman

  2. How is the energy converted into a usable form of energy? What is it used for? • There’s a wide range of biofuels being made from things such as solid biomass, liquid fuels and various biogases. Biofuel is used as gasoline in a car. • Biomass briquettes is coal made from biomass making it pollution free. They are a substitute for charcoal or coal.

  3. What are its benefits? What are its drawbacks? Biomass Briquettes Biofuels Benefits • Cheaper than coal. • Less pollution. • Renewable resource. Drawbacks • Requires large amount of land to produce. • Decreases food supply. • Expensive to produce. Benefits • Renewable resource. • Less pollution. Drawbacks • Requires deforestation and soil erosion. • Results in loss of biodiversity. • Has an impact on water resources.

  4. What are government plans for full implementation/conversion? • With biofuel our country is trying to harmonize our agenda with Latin America because the European commissioners have almost completely switched over. • For biomass briquettes, Obama’s administration have created a program, Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP), who wish to establish, produce, and deliver biomass feedstock's.

  5. Why is it not our number one source of energy currently? • Biofuels may release more CO2 into the atmosphere then they save. • The production of biomass briquettes is very costly and some people think that since it uses our food and land that we might have an epidemic where we are left with not enough food.

  6. What does it release into the environment and how does this affect the environment? • Biofuels release more CO2 into the environment. • Biomass briquettes release CO2 into the environment as well as other greenhouse gases.
