  8. Ripe for fertilization Sperm entering egg First cell division Moving down fallopian tube Day 7 –Egg shell breaks, embryo settles in uterus

  10. Day 30-7mm Developing face Day 28 with yolk sac Day 39-12mm AT 6 WKS THE BABY HAS A HEART BEAT HEART HAS 2 CHAMBERS NEURAL TUBE CLOSES AND BRAIN IS DEVELOPING

  20. ANTENATAL CHECKUPS • Once every month till 28weeks • Then once in 2 weeks till 36 weeks • After36 weeks once a week

  21. ANTENATAL INVESTIGATIONS • Blood group and Rh • Hb , CBC • HIV • HBsAg • Blood Sugar • TSH ( thyroid) • Thallasemia screening

  22. ROUTINE CHECKS IN EACH VISIT • WEIGHT GAIN • BLOOD PRESSURE • SWELLING • GROWTH OF BABY • FETAL HEART • POSITION AND PRESENTATION

  23. SCREENING TESTS • SERUM SCREENING AND NT AT 10 WEEKS • TRIPLE MARKER(AFP,HCG AND OESTRIOL)AT 14-16 WKS • QUADRAPLE TEST(TESTS INHIBIN A) IF TRIPLE MARKER IS MISSED

  24. WHAT FOR? • SPINA BIFIDA • CHROMOSOMAL ABNORMALITIES LIKE DOWNS SYNDROME

  25. ULTRASOUND SCANS • AT 6 WKS TO SEE THE HEART BEAT AND LOCATION OF PREGNANCY • AT 10 WKS TO SEE NUCHAL TRANSLUCENCY • ANOMALY SCAN AT 20WKS-3D/4D • COLOR DOPPLAR AS INDICATED

  26. MEDICATION • folic acid • Iron • Calcium DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICINE WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR GYNEC

  27. PREGNANCY CHANGES Backache Fatigue Heartburn Leg cramps Mouth and tooth changes Shortness of breath Emotional changes Headaches
