  1. IVF treatment process By Mannat Fertility Centre

  2. Introduction In vitro fertilization or IVF is a type of assisted reproductive technology treatment, which has been in practice since 1978. It was a year when the first test-tube baby, Louise Joy Brown, was born in England. In IVF treatment procedure, the fertilization of egg with sperm cells takes place outside of a female body. It facilitates a couple to get rid of all obstacles and become parents of a child.

  3. IVF treatment process Usually, we, at Mannat Fertility Centre, recommend IVF treatment to couples with tubal blockage/damage, uterine fibroids, low sperm count & motility, endometriosis, and unexplained infertility. Further, we recommend this to couples with ovulation disorders, previous tubal removal or sterilisation, genetic disorders, and fertility preservation for cancer and allied health conditions.

  4. IVF treatment process Mannat Fertility Centre is a registered and reputed IVF clinic in Bangalore, India. We are bound to follow the set medical norms & standards and the process for infertility treatment. The actual IVF treatment process starts with the first consultation with an infertile couple and comes to and with a pregnancy test.

  5. IVF treatment process Our process for IVF treatment is as follows: • Initial consultation and evaluation • Medicine or supplements for ovary stimulation • Egg retrieval • Sperm retrieval • Egg fertilisation for embryo development • Embryo transfer • Pregnancy test

  6. Have a brief look at these steps on the following pages. 03 Egg retrieval Initial consultation and evaluation 01 Medicine or supplements for ovary stimulation 04 02 Sperm retrieval 06 Embryo transfer 05 Egg fertilisation for embryo development 07 Pregnancy test

  7. Initial consultation and evaluation It is your first meeting with one of our IVF doctors or fertility experts. In the first consultation, you or your spouse explain your problem and answer a few queries of our specialist. The queries are associated with your previous pregnancies if you have, your effort time to conceive, yours and your spouse’s age, medical backgrounds of your family members, etc. After the interaction, the expert can recommend you a few tests or screenings to know the root cause. The doctor can ask you to come another day and recommend IVF to you. While recommending in vitro fertilisation, the expert will explain the process, the probable risks, and how you can make your treatment successful for you.

  8. Medicine or supplements for ovary stimulation The main IVF treatment starts with ovary stimulation. In it, doctors ask you (females) to consume artificial hormones for the stimulation of your ovaries. Ovary stimulation leads you to have egg production. The expert can prescribe several medicines for ovarian stimulation, oocyte maturation, premature ovulation prevention, and the uterus lining preparation. Further, the expert can perform a vaginal ultrasound to know the development of follicles and blood tests to measure to know your response to medicines used for ovary stimulation.

  9. Egg retrieval The expert performs egg retrieval after 34b to 36 hours after the final hormone injection and before your ovulation. You need to take a painkiller before the start of the egg retrieval process. • Usually, experts do transvaginal ultrasound aspiration. The experts can use abdominal ultrasound if they have problems accessing your ovaries through a transvaginal ultrasound. • With the use of a suction device, they retrieve eggs from your ovaries. They extract multiple eggs in or around 20 minutes. • You can experience a feeling of pressure or fullness and cramping after egg retrieval. • The experts take mature eggs from the retrieved eggs and place the same in nutritive liquid.

  10. Sperm retrieval You need to carry a sample of your male partner’s semen if both of you want to have your own biological child. If you haven’t come with the sample semen, your male partner needs to produce it through masturbation. Your male partner can use a private room at the clinic to masturbate for semen collection in a container. After masturbation, your spouse can produce it to the experts there. The other method for sperm extraction is testicular aspiration. In it, the expert will use a needle or perform a surgery to retrieve sperm directly from the testicle. In the case of zero sperm in your partner’s semen, the expert can use donor sperm to move ahead in the treatment procedure.

  11. Egg fertilization for embryo development IVF doctors use several methods for the fertilization of eggs at the lab. In general, they use two methods: • Conventional insemination - In this, experts collect healthy sperm from the extracted semen and mix and incubate the same with egg overnight. • ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) - Experts inject a healthy sperm cell directly into every mature egg. They do it when sperm count and quality is very poor.

  12. Embryo transfer Experts perform the embryo transfer at the clinic after 2-5 days of egg retrieval. Before the process starts, you might have to take a mild sedative. In the process, an expert will insert a catheter into your vagina through the cervix and it will go into the uterus. The expert will suspend one or more embryos with a syringe containing a fluid in a small amount. With this syringe, the expert places the embryo/s into your uterus. The process used for embryo transfer could be assisted hatching preimplantation genetic testing.

  13. Pregnancy test Pregnancy happens when there is implantation of an embryo on the uterus lining. The expert at an IVF clinic will perform a blood test on you after two weeks to know whether you are pregnant or not. In the case of donor egg or donor sperm, the process is the same. And you have to do what your doctor instructs you if you are serious about having a child.
