Finland at a glance Total area: 338,000 square kilometers, of which 10% is water and 69% forest; 187,888 lakes, 5,100 rapids and 179,584 islands; Europe's largest archipelago, including the semi-autonomous province of Åland Distances: 1,160 km north to south, 540 km west to east Finland's land border with Russia (1,269 km) is the eastern border of the European Union. Climate: The climate of Finland is marked by cold winters and fairly warm summers. In the far north of the country the sun does not set for about 73 days, producing the white nights of summer. In winter the sun remains below the horizon for 51 days in the far north.In summer the temperature quite often rises to +20 Celsius or more and occasionally goes close to +30 in southern and eastern parts of the country. In winter, temperatures of -20 Celsius are not uncommon in many areas. Finnish Lapland invariably has the lowest winter temperatures. The mean temperature in Helsinki in July is +17 Celsius and in February -5.7 Celsius.

  6. The city of Orivesi • Orivesi was established in 1865 amidst the beautiful Finnish nature. It is situated in the southern Finland, 200 kilometers north of Helsinki and only for a half an hour journey from Tampere and Pirkkala airport. The city is easily accessible either on the main road 9 or along the road 58/60. You can arrive at Orivesi also by train. • Orivesi is a small city of about 9000 inhabitants and it offers all essential services. Over 70% of the inhabitants live in residential areas. Orivesi is quite a large city of its square area, covering 545 square kilometers on ground, and its water area extending to 107 square kilometers. Its woods, its fields and its over 220 lakes invite the visitor to experience the nature and the wilderness. Recreational opportunities are excellent. Besides nature trails, skiing tracks, sports fields and  beaches, a swimming pool, ice skating rink and extensive sports facilities are available for sports pursuits. • Orivesi is also a culturally active and lively city, especially in the summer.   7. The School of Rovastinkangas Information in English • Our school inspires students to do their very best in everything they take part in. We are an active school which with nearly 190 students and nine teachers. Our students are from 6 to 12 years old and we have classes from preschool up to grade six. • Rovastinkangas aims to be more than just a school. We have emphasis on art and skill subjects such as sports, music, art and handicrafts. In addition to those we also concentrate on media skills. Our students study English already in preschool. • The students have a very active role in our school. There is an influential student counsel and a cheerful Cheerleaders group. We also have a god child Ishan, in Sri Lanka, whose studies we aid financially and of course we are participating project called”Life across Europe” • The school of Rovastinkangas is a modern school with high technology. We were formerly known as the school of Vehkalahti, but since August 2006 we moved into a new school building and changed the name of our school into Rovastinkankaan koulu.
