  1. Database Administrator Workshop @ RALProposed Workshop Goals Dirk Duellmann, CERN

  2. Pre-Production Starts Soon • Official start end of this month • Will ramp up during next three month • Larger scale (insert volume, clients and sites) • Goal: define full service setup for October milestone • At workshop after summer Dirk Duellmann

  3. Pre-Production Service Targets • Comments during discussin with LHCC reviewers • Experiments should define targets for “service success” • Main problem: DB payload and not always defined yet • Proposal to ramp up tests using existing load generators (eg David Front’s COOL suite) • ATLAS paper for online COOL use case exists • Number of IOVs / sec , payload rate • Need similar target definition for Tier 1 • Now: start to explore parameter space • How far can we get with the current system? • Input to experiment planning Dirk Duellmann

  4. Today • Collect complete list of open service questions • Document answers (and alternatives) • Implementation reference - how are the sites implementing the service • User guide - how do experiment use the service • List open questions • And agree on required tasks to conclude on them • Short presentations by topic • Mainly to raise questions (and propose answers) • Keep a log of the discussion • Turn that into wiki documentation after the workshop Dirk Duellmann

  5. Main Topics • Database and storage configuration • Monitoring • Initial OEM setup • Agent installation, OEM configuration • Session auditing and resource consumption • Network configuration and security • connectivity and emergency procedure • User Support • Bug reports & integration in existing problem handling (eg GGUS) Dirk Duellmann

  6. Points for later • Backup and Recovery • Assume Oracle in archivelog mode • Experiment DB from CERN will be backed up at source • Data created at a Tier 1 (grid services & castor) ? • Shared DBA Service • Need to prepare accounts and required previledges • But after more experience with typical operations • Until then: each site administers site resources Dirk Duellmann
