  2. Mixing Digital and Analog Technologies FSC Digital Output Transmitter Analog 2-wire digital communications Multivariable Interface Module Status Analog Input Shutdown System MVA-111 2.0

  3. What is the MVA ? Safety System Interface Power Digital Transmitter Input STAT RLY DE Analog Output HI Status Output LO Model MVA-111 Multivariable ! Validated ! Bumpless ! Safe! Accurate Rev 1.3

  4. Digital output transmitters provide status with every measurement value • Every analog output value is validated • Analog output transmitters cannot provide this synchronous measurement validation Multivariable Interface Module • Process Measurement Validation STATUS Analog Output RELAY Digital Input COMM POWER Status Output MVA-111 3.0

  5. Process Measurement Validation Unlike an analog output transmitter alone, the MVA provides true Process Measurement Validation . . . • Every digital Process Measurement Value from the transmitter has diagnostic Status • Transmitter status is passed through the MVA to the FSC • MVA analog repeat output is Synchronously Validated for: • Transmitter Diagnostic Status • Communication(DE) Integrity • MVA Diagnostic Status AND . . . • MVA Analog Repeat Output Signal integrity • The MVA analog output (into the FSC) is re-sampled by the MVA and validated for agreement with the transmitter’s digital DE value. 3.0
