  1. Old Testament Survey The Fall to Abraham

  2. Result of the Fall • Our relationship with God that was enjoyed before the fall was severed • Spiritual Warfare started • Our relationship with each other was frustrated • Creation was cursed and subject to decay (entropy) • Romans 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

  3. Our relationship with God • Humanity now stands before God guilty of having transgressed against God. • People are born in sin with an ingrain desire to rebel against God

  4. Start of Spiritual Warfare “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” • There are two seeds mentioned; the one from the serpent the other from the woman • Note: Women don’t have seed this is speaking of Christ. • Gal 3:16

  5. Our Relationship with Each Other • Woman’s Curse “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”

  6. Man’s Curse “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18  thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19  By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

  7. Descendents of Adam to Noah Name Meaning Adam --------------------------------- Seth ----------------------------------- Enosh--------------------------------- Kenan--------------------------------- Mahalalel----------------------------- Jared ---------------------------------- Enoch --------------------------------- Methuselah --------------------------- Lamech------------------------------- Noah ---------------------------------- Man Appointed Mortal Sorrow The Blessed God Shall come down Teaching His death shall bring The Despairing Rest, or comfort

  8. The Ark Dimensions • 300 cubits long; 50 cubits wide; 30 cubits high • Cubit = 18in • 450ft long; 75 ft wide; 45 high • Cubit = 25in • 625ft long; 104 wide; 63 high • This ratio of 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high make the ark very steady

  9. The Flood Gen 6 5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. • Covered the whole Earth • Killed all but 8 people; there could have been up to a billion people at this point • Killed all of land and air animals except for those in the ark

  10. The Flood • Rained for 40 days • Not just rained the fountains of the deep opened • Waters covered the Earth for 150 days • In the ark for 377 days • Came to rest on the Mountains of Ararat on the 17th day of the seventh month • These is an important details • Traditional Mt Ararat in Turkey is a singular mountain

  12. Evidence for the Flood • Dinosaurs quickly drowned and were fossilized • Mammoths were found quickly drowned in North America or frozen in Siberia. • Petrified forest 100 miles from the south pole • Sea animals are found fossilized at high elevations • Coal and oil formations • Grand Canyon • Fossil graveyards • Fossils imply a quick burying

  13. Post Flood Changes • Gen 9 • No longer vegetarians • Capitol punishment ordained • Human government established • Other Changes • Human lifespan decreases • Universal Climate ends • Atmospheric pressure is probably reduced • The Pterodactyl seem to have needed at least two atmospheres to fly

  14. Noah’s Sons Gen 9: 1 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.” • God’s first commandment is spoken again by God to spread out and fill the whole Earth. • The ark Landed West of Babylon (Gen 11:2) probably in the Mountains of Iran. Landing in this area of the world made it possible to fill the whole earth

  15. Nimrod • Name means Rebel • First world dictator • Founded the cities of Babylon and Nineveh • Both were world capitols and enemies of Israel • He lead a rebellion against God • He is a type of Anti-Christ

  16. Tower of Babel Gen 11:4  Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” • The purpose of the Tower was to keep themselves from being dispersed which was the opposite of what God told them • It was meant for astrology • The tower was near Babylon • This is the place where all paganism originated from
