Pillar 1: Building institutional capacity and creative industries “Promoting cultural diversity and creative expression through education: exchange of good practices” Objective: enhance presence of cultural content in educational programs and strengthen coordination between the culture and education sectors “Culture in Development: an Inter-American Information Network” Objective: create a network comprising OAS member States, civil society and international organizations to facilitate the design and implementation of public policies in culture

Cross-Cutting Initiatives 2011: Inter-American Year of Culture In 2009, the OAS General Assembly approved resolution (AG/RES.2468) declaring the celebration of 2011 as the Inter-American Year of Culture. The resolution charged the CIC with implementing initiatives in the framework of the Inter-American Year of Culture with particular emphasis on the role that culture plays in providing opportunities for young people in the hemisphere.

  10. 2011: Inter-American Year of CultureOur Cultures, Our Future “The Inter-American Year of Culture celebrates the diverse cultures of the Americas and promotes the central role that culture plays in economic, social and human development in all communities.”

  11. Provide a platform to promote the key role that culture plays in economic, social and human development. Highlight the rich cultural diversity of the Americas. Promote the development and implementation of public policies in the member States, ensuring sustainability of the outcomes of the 2011 Inter-American Year of Culture. Raise awareness of the work of the CIC. Main Objectives
