In 1971, there were 294,105 females participating in high school sports. Since then, that number has increased an average of 8.5% per year. Write an equation to represent the number of females participating in high school sports since 1971. y = C (1 + r)t General equation for exponential growth y = 294,105 (1 + 0.085)t C = 294,105 and r = 8.5% or 0.085. y = 294,105(1.085)t. Simplify. y represents number of female athletes and t represents years since 1971.
