  1. The Creation of Genesis 2

  2. Prayer for Mothers

  3. The Creation of Genesis 2

  4. The Creation of Genesis 2:5–7 (ESV) 5 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, 6 and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground

  5. The Creation of Genesis 2:5–7 (ESV) 7 then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

  6. Elohim(אֱלֹהִיםelohim)is the name of the creator God of chapter 1 but in chapter 2of Genesis the name of creator God is Yahweh (יהוהYhvh ).

  7. Elohim emphasizes God’s sovereignty and power Yahweh emphasizes his personal and covenantal nature

  8. God is both sovereign and powerful, and God is also personal and relational

  9. Two different words, two very different meanings בָּרָאbara means “created from nothing”, while יָצַרyatsarmeans to “form with intended design.”

  10. נְשָׁמָה “neshamah” The breath of life

  11. When a Hebrew would read Genesis there would be a smile in his soul—he would know that human beings were created with great care and planning, separate and unique from plants and animals—indeed with moral capacity to both serve God and have relationship with God.

  12. The Creation of Genesis 2:18 Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

  13. The Creation of Gen 2:20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.

  14. The Creation of Genesis 2:22–23 (ESV) 22 And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

  15. The Creation of Genesis 2:24–25 (ESV) 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

  16. Adam is alone and that state is not good, the only thing God states is “not good” up to this point.

  17. What is missing? What is wrong? Why is being “alone” not good.

  18. The Hebrew word for companion suitable isעֵזֶר “ezer”, it describes “one who provides what is lacking in man, who can do what the man alone cannot.

  19. “I just can’t understand her!” or “I just can’t understand him?”

  20. kenegdo, נֶגֶד, or “corresponding to him” which means “according to the opposite.”

  21. The only way to fix what was “not good” for Adam was for God to provide someone who corresponded to him, but is purposely designed “according to our opposite.”

  22. Genesis 2:18 (ESV) Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

  23. The Creation of Genesis 2
