Popular dinner selections in southwest Florida include fresh seafood, steaks, pork, & chicken. In addition, most of our dinners include “side dishes” such as fresh vegetables, fruits, a starch (potato, pasta or rice), and bread.
We love to eat freshly caught fish, stone crabs, alligator tail, & our World Famous Gulf Shrimp.
Our sub-tropical weather provides us with delicious fresh fruits & vegetables including our locally grown “ugly” tomatoes, Florida sweet onions, lettuce, peppers, Key limes, Meyer lemons, grapefruit, strawberries, & Honeybell oranges all of which are often used in dinner salads. Did you know we grow Meyer lemons here ? They were brought to America in 1908 from China. Salads are a combination of several fresh fruits and vegetables.
Pasta, rice, and potatoes are popular side dishes served with dinner in Florida. Pastas and Rice We love our potatoes prepared baked, stuffed, mashed, fried, and our favorite… French Fries.
No meal would be complete without bread. It is so important to us we sometimes refer to eating together as “breaking bread”.

We frequently serve water with every meal here in Florida because of our heat and humidity. In addition, we drink sweet and unsweetened teas. Lastly, many people enjoy a glass of wine or beer with their dinner.
We hope you have enjoyed learning about the American foods and drinks we enjoy here in southwest Florida. We wish you Bon appétit. This is a French saying which is translated “I wish you a hearty appetite” and is traditionally stated at the beginning of a meal.Written by: Beverley Chamberlain for Group 1 Project 3THE END REFERENCES Microsoft Corporation.
