Goals for the Longer Term: To bridge scientific research, education, and policy decision making in order to find tailored solutions for problems faced in developing countries; To enhance the potential advantages of ICTs in their critical accelerator role for the applications of scientific data and information for socioeconomic development and scientific innovation; and To apply these digital resources to the UN Millennium Development Goals in developing and economic transition countries.

Poverty Reduction Should be the Center of Development Efforts in Developing Countries –UNDP Poverty Reduction Strategy • 1.2 billion people around the globe still live on less than a dollar a day and nearly 850 million people go hungry every night. • Poverty is multidimensional, involving not only a lack of income, but also ill-health, illiteracy, lack of access to basic social services, and little opportunity to participate in the processes that influence people’s lives.
