Definition • The Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program is a government subsidized student employment program designed to assist students in financing their post-secondary education. In order to be eligible for Work-Study, students must document financial need every year by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. Note: The only way for students accepting their Work-Study (WS) award to receive the award amount is to get a job, work up to 20 hours per week, and earn it! Students are strongly encouraged to begin the job search early. Popular Work-Study positions tend to be filled quickly.
What is CWS? • What are the advantages of Work-Study Jobs? • Although a WS job should be treated as any other job, it does have several distinct advantages: • Students have the benefit of working in an environment suited to their skills, preferences and possible career goals. • Students and Work-Study employers arrange a work schedule around the class schedule. • Work-Study wages are not counted towards next year's student contribution for financial aid.

How CWS Works • All department post CWS positions on line • Student review posting and select positions and complete application on line • Department reviews application. Interview Applicants • Department sends selected applicant with Hire Confirmation Form to Career Services • Career Services gives student Authorization Form
How CWS Works • Department has student complete Personnel paperwork • Department sends Hiring PAR and Personnel paperwork to CWS Office, Rm 23 E. Cullen (not Human Resources) • Student is not allowed to work until the student present the department with a Authorization Form
Discussion • Beginning this year Federal CWS and Texas CWS both carry a 75/25 split. • Departments will still have to make sure student is in perspective positions
