  1. ”Team -6% ” Campaign to Stop Global Warming Awareness raising campaign is effective since it contributes to making citizens and business entities to know about the contents of the measures better through taking part in voluntary actions. It also contributes to raising awareness and motivation of the citizens and business entities to the climate change issues. Ministry of the Environment Government of Japan

  3. “Team -6%” Campaign launch Under the Kyoto Protocol, Japan promised to reduce the greenhouse gas by 6%. In order to ensure the target, the government has launched since April 2005 a campaign called “Team -6%” to stop global warming, encouraging companies and individuals to make specific actions to help achieve the goal. Prime Minister KOIZUMI Junichiro is the leader of the Team. Minister of the Environment KOIKE Yuriko supports him as the sub-leader.

Campaign • “Team -6%” Campaign calls for setting the temperature of air conditioner at 28℃. • In order to widely disseminate the campaign, “Cool Biz” was introduced under Prime Minister Koizumi’s initiative. • Considering high temperature and high humidity during summer in Japan, “Cool Biz” encourages people to wear cool and stylish clothes without ties and jackets even in business occasion . Environment Minister KOIKE Yuriko made an appeal to citizens that “if businessmen put off a necktie while working, the office won’t be overcooled and business women don’t need a blanket any more” to encourage citizens to participate in “Cool Biz” campaign <Newspaper ad on Jun/01/05>

  6. With the support by the members of the Diet and the leaders of the business world, “Cool Biz” was widely accepted by majority of companies and people. On June 5, 2005 which falls in the UN World Environment Day, “Cool Biz Collection” was held at EXPO 2005 Aichi JAPAN with business leaders including Mr. Okuda, chairman of Nippon Keidanren on “Cool Biz” style

  7. effects “Cool Biz” not only brings about favorable effect on the reduction of carbon dioxide by saving the usage of electricity, but also revitalizes clothes industry.

  8. 2005 Winter • “Team -6%” will continue to encourage people to set the room temperature at 20℃ during winter. • The campaign is called “Warm Biz”, which will promote the business style with the mindset of “wear more clothes if you are cold, don’t depend on the heater.” • “Warm Biz” also recommends a product or a technology which helps save energy and contribute to the dissemination of the work style (clothes), without depending on air-conditioners.
