  3. Who was Dionysus??? The God of wine, partying, and fertility. Dithyrambs were hymns in his honor.

  4. There were 3 types of Greek plays: • Comedy • Tragedy • Satire ??? (Plays that made fun of the government)

  5. Greek Play Festivals • These were tributes to Dionysus • How important were they? • What types of activities were there? • Who attended them? • How much did they cost

  6. What was a GreekChorus? A group of MEN who would chant dithyrambs and narrate the stories. These WERE the actors!

  7. Who was Thespis? From his name, we get the word THESPIANwhich literally means actor. He was known as the first actor!

  8. Who were the three great Greek playwrights? SophocleS Euripides Aeschylus

  9. The Ancient Greek Theatre Theatron- Seating area Parados- Walkways, for entrances, and exits Orchestra- the stage Skene- a hut used for changing costumes.

  10. They did WHAT???!!! Tragoedia- Dressing as half man and half goat. Satyrs- The men who dressed as half man and half goat

  11. Where do we get the word DRAMA from? It is Greek? Dran- To do

  12. Masks Size and sound! Main part of the costume! Mainly made of cork and linen.
