  1. Units of Measure Chapter 6

  2. Units of Length 12 inches (in.) = 1 foot (ft.) 3 feet = 1 yard (yd.) 5,280 feet = 1 mile (mi.) 1,760 yards = 1 mile

  3. Let’s start out simple. How many feet are equal to 2 yards?

  4. Lets look at the numbers. 3 feet = 1 yard 1 x 2 = 2 yards Whatever you do to one side of the equal sign, you must do to the other! 3 x 2 = 6 feet 6 feet = 2 yards

  5. Let’s try another one. How many inches are in 4 feet?

  6. Let’s look at the numbers. 12 inches (in.) = 1 foot (ft.) 1 x 4 = 4 feet Whatever you do to one side of the equal sign, you must do to the other! 12 x 4 = 48 inches 48 inches = 4 feet

  7. What if there are leftovers? 54 inches = ______ ft. ______ in.

  8. Let’s look at the numbers. 54 inches = ______ ft. ______ in. 54 / 12 = 4 r 6 To go from units of smaller measurement to units of larger measurements, you must divide! 54 inches = __4__ ft. __6__ in.

  9. Let’s try another one! 125 inches = ______ ft. ______ in.

  10. Let’s look at the numbers. 125 inches = ______ ft. ______ in. 125 / 12 = 10 r 5 To go from units of smaller measurement to units of larger measurements, you must divide! 125 inches = __10__ ft. __5__ in.

  11. Let’s go the mile! How many yards is equal to 5 miles?

  12. Look at the numbers. 1,760 yards = 1 mile 1 x 5 = 5 miles Whatever you do to one side of the equal sign, you must do to the other! 1,760 x 5 = 8,800 yards 5miles = 8,800 yards

  13. Units of Weight and Capacity 16 ounces (oz) = 1 pound (lb) 2,000 pounds = 1 ton (T)

  14. How many pounds is equal to 32 ounces? 16 oz = 1 lb 32/2 = 16… so 16 x 2 = 32 oz Whatever you do to one side of the equal sign, you must do to the other! 1 x 2 = 2 lb 32 oz = 2 lb

  15. How many pounds is equal to 2 tons? 2,000 lb = 1 T 1 X 2 = 2 T Whatever you do to one side of the equal sign, you must do to the other! 2,000 x 2 = 4,000 lb 4,000 lb = 2 T

  16. Units of Capacity 8 fluid ounces (fl oz) = 1 cup (c) 2 cups = 1 pint (pt) 2 pints = 1 quart (qt) 4 quarts = 1 gallon (gal)

  17. How many gallons are equal to 24 pints? 2 pt = 1 qt

  18. Let’s look at the numbers 24/ 2 = 12 qt Because 2 pt = 1 qt 12/4 = 3 gal Because 4 qt = 1 gal 24 pt = 3 gal
