  2. Mark 8:1 • In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,

  3. Mark 8:2 Previously, Christ said: • I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:

  4. Feeding of the 5000 Mark 6:34 • And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

  5. Mark 8:3 • And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.

  6. Tough Question If Christ has already fed 5000, why are the disciples asking the question found in Mark 8:4?

  7. Mark 8:4 • And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?

  8. This Question Has caused some to speculate as to whether there were actually two events as recorded by both Matthew and Mark, or is this a doublet?

  12. Mark 8:5 • And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

  13. Mark 8:6 • And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.

  14. Mark 8:7-8 • And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them. • So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.

  19. John 6:14 • Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world [Deut 18:18].

  33. Let’s Be Clear Here Eating the Manna in the desert did NOT result in eternal life!

  34. Likewise not all of the 5000 or all of the 4000 that ate bread from Jesus will be in heaven

  35. John 6:34 They are DULL • Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

  36. Paul Said 1 Corinthians 1:18 • For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

  38. John 6:36-37 • But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. • All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

  39. John 6:38-39 • For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

  40. John 6:40 • And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

  41. Conclusion #1 • Jesus provided bread from heaven to validate and authenticate that He was the ultimate Prophet whom God would send in the like manner as Moses.

  42. Conclusion #2 • Jesus provided bread from heaven as a symbol or type of what He is to be in our lives as the ONE who sustains and nourishes us into everlasting life.

  43. Conclusion #3 • Only those who believe in Jesus as their all-sufficient, all-satisfying Bread of Life can be assured that they will be raised up at the last day.
