ADVANCED DISTRIBUTED LEARNING(ADL) • Distance Learning: Timely exchange of information through application of interactive multimedia instruction technologies • APAN ADL Objectives • Prepare leaders in the Asia-Pacific region for humanitarian and peace operations • Promote professional military leadership • Establish core competencies for combined operations • Build confidence in forming coalitions • Improve regional readiness and interoperability

ADL: THE WAY AHEAD • Short Range • Establish ADL portal on APAN to existing ADL courses and instruction • Solicit requirements from APAN partners • Invite APAN partners to create Asia-Pacific oriented ADL courses and instruction • Long Range • Multi-National Interactive Virtual Learning Masters in Security Studies • Collaborative Network • Two-Way Video-Teletraining Still soliciting your good ideas!

ADL: Virtual Schoolhouse • Reception – ADL Portal on APAN • Registration – Enrollment • Book Store/Library – Reference Material • Classrooms - Lectures/Briefings • Auditorium - Multimedia Presentations • Student Lounge – Collaboration with Students • Faculty Lounge – Collaboration with Instructors

REGIONAL DISTRIBUTED DESKTOP SIMULATION (RDDS) • RDDS: Conduct computer-aided staff planning events via APAN to encourage interoperability and promote habits of cooperation among MPAT & APAN partners • Target audience – O-4 to O-6 level staff officers throughout the Asia-Pacific region • Timing – • Complements bi-annual MPAT workshops • Virtually links MPAT Workshops and major Multinational Exercises

RDDS: THE WAY AHEAD • Short Range • Connect to Odyssey Collaboration System server via INTERNET • Virtual Resource subject matter experts at MPAT Workshops • Convert MPAT material to web-based refreshers and read-aheads • Situational Awareness for TE Workshops • Long Range (via desktop PC) • In between TE workshops – • Run COA in a computer model • Provide feedback to MPAT participants • Conduct MPAT workshops virtually
