  2. Slope-Intercept and Point-slope Slope-Intercept • y=mx+b • b=y-intercept • m=slope Point Slope • y- y₁=m(x-x₁)

  3. Example: (5, -1), x-3y=6, Same y-intercept Slope-intercept • (Make it a y=mx+b equation) • x-3y=6 • Subtract x • -3y=6-x • Divide by -3 • y=1/3x-2 ( y=mx-2) • Plug in • -1=m(5)-2 • Multiply • -1=5m -2 • Add 2 to both sides • 1=5m • Divide by 5 • m=1/5 • y=⅕x-2 (page 332, number 29) Textbook

  4. Example: same slope as 2x=3y-1, (8,-5) Slope Intercept • 2x=3y-1 • Add • 2x+1=3y • Divide • y=⅔x+⅓ ( y=⅔x+b) • -5=⅔(8)+b • Simplify • -5=16/3+b • Subtract • -31/3=b • y=⅔x-31/3 (Page 332, Number 31) Textbook
