  1. EBOLA VIRUS [EV] A deadly viral disease caused by the EV. Transmitted via contact with blood or body fluids (saliva, semen, urine, faeces) of infected humans or animals. 90% of infected individuals die. • In case of an outbreak: • Wash hands often • Minimise touching surfaces • Avoid contact with people with similar symptoms mentioned below • Avoid bush meat and food from unknown sources • Eat healthy and drink plenty fluids • Spread the word!!! Tests for this disease requires sophisticated means and extreme caution. No vaccines available to prevent EV and no cure exists. Treatment involves reducing the symptoms. Symptoms may not manifest till after 3 weeks from moment of contact. Initial symptoms are malaria/flu-like: headache, fever, body pains, weakness. The virus targets blood cells responsible for clotting (stopping bleeding) causing internal & external bleeding via eyes, nose, ears, bleeding skin rash, vomiting, diarrhea… EV is named after Ebola river in DR of Congo where the first outbreak was ever recorded.
