The Irish HE System • 7 universities (plus associated colleges) • 2010/11 – 98,087 Full time students • 81% undergraduate & 18% postgraduate • 98% of SFI funding, 80% of research infrastructure funding; 95% of research council scholarships fund research activities in universities • 14 Institutes of Technology offering degree and sub-degree level technical qualifications. • 2010/11 – 62,885 Full time students • IOT sector – 96% undergraduate 4% postgraduate • Private sector providers offer programmes at all levels, and cater for about 4% of higher education students
