  2. Purpose:To encourage educators to utilize technology for integration into lesson plans

  3. Objective: • Through the integration of multimedia projects teachers will be able to enhance their lessons while capturing their students’ interest more effective; • Students will develop the following academic skills: cooperative-learning, research, reading, mathematics, and analytical writing, public speaking and presentation skills; • Students will become technology competent.

  4. Unit of Practice • Standards – Framework (Sunshine Standards) • Invitation – The goals and objectives the teacher wants to address with this project. • Task- Action students will be asked to undertake • Tools- Instruments students will use to approach their tasks • Interactions- The way students and teacher will work with each other • Situations- The place and time students will have to work on theactivity • Assessment- Criteria by which students will be evaluated

  5. Overview • The teacher’s role may change from the authoritative source of information to facilitator of exploration; • The physical organization of the classroom may shift to accommodate the learning activity; • Classroom activities may evolve to learner-centered, learner driven projects which over time engage the students in development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking.

  6. Week One: Developing The Topic • What is multimedia? • Why does multimedia work in classroom projects? • Planning, organizing & story boarding devastating weather using concept maps. • Organizing cooperative learning groups.

  7. Week Two: Technology Know how • Operation of digital cameras, firewire, & USB cables • Using iMovie, iTUnes, & iPhoto • Scanning and downloading documents, photos, and movie clips

  8. Week Three: Putting it Together • Tapping interviews • Importing images and sound from the internet and print material • Putting the Movie together

  9. Week Four: Putting it Together II • Editing and other finishing touches • Making your credits • Presenting your movie and critiques • Burning your movie to a CD or converting it to a VCR tape

  11. Unit of Practice • Standards SC.C. 1.3: The student recognized that the processes in the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere interact to shape the Earth SC.H.3.3: Student understand that science, technology, and society are interwoven and interdependent.

  12. Invitation Students will develop an understanding of the social, environmental, and economic impact of weather, what make weather devastating, and how weather is part of the systems of the Earth.

  13. Task Students will work in groups to research weather phenomena, define devastating weather, create a multimedia presentation detailing their findings and conclusions.

  14. Tools Computer, the internet, atlases, resource books, digital camera, a scanner, word processing software, presentation software, textbooks, chart paper, and markers.

  15. Interaction What will be the roles of the teacher, groups, individuals within the groups? Will the roles and make-up of the groups change throughout the process?

  16. Situation How much time will be needed for each phase of the project? How much time will be needed for the project to be completed? Where will the project take place at each phase of the project?

  17. Assessment A rubric will be developed to assess phase progress of content, oral presentation, and group collaboration The teacher asks questions and informally monitors group progress through the unit. Completion of storyboard, iMovie and/or powerpoint presentation.
