  1. Steps to recovery Part 3 Principle #5: Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.

  2. Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires. • Matthew 5:6 Good News Bible

  3. Where do my character defects come from? • MY CHROMOSOMES • MY CIRCUMSTANCES • MY CHOICES

  4. Why is it so hard to change the defects in my life? • Because I’ve had them so long. • Because I identify with them.

  5. Because they have a payoff. • Because Satan discourages me.

  6. How do I cooperate with God’s change process? • Focus on changing ONE DEFECT at a time. Proverbs 17:24 • Focus on victory ONE DAY at a time. Matthew 6:11 • Focus on God's power, not WILL POWEWR. • Jeremiah 13:23 (LB) Philippians 4:13

  7. Focus on what I want, not on what I DON’T WANT. • Philippians 4:8 • Focus on doing good, not FEELING good. • Galatians 5:16.

  8. Focus on people who help me, not HINDER me. • 1 Corinthians 15:33 Ecclesiastes 4:12 • Recovery always happens in a RELATIONSHIP. • Proverbs 27:17

  9. Focus on PROGRESS, not perfection. • Philippians 1:6 • Recovery is a DECISION followed by a PROCESS.

  10. Principle #6: • Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.

  11. Happy are those who are merciful to others. (Matthew 5:7, GN)

  12. FORGIVE THOSE WHO HAVE HURT ME , WHY? • Because God has FORGIVEN me • Colossians 3:13 • Because RESENTMENT doesn't work. • Job 5:2 • Because I will need FORGIVENESS in the future. • Mark 11:25"

  13. FORGIVE THOSE WHO HAVE HURT ME, HOW? • REVEAL my hurt. • Psalm 55:12-14 • RELEASE my offender. • Matthew 18:21-22 • REPLACE my hurt with God's peace. Colossians 3:15
