The Application Be sure to fill out the application completely Include all requested forms such as transcripts, references, etc. Be aware of the criteria for the scholarship – financial need, grades, volunteering, etc. – and be sure to highlight those areas Be sure to follow directions on how and where to submit your application properly Plan ahead – gather all necessary documents early Submit your application on or before the deadline

Gather the Necessary Materials • Keep a file for your applications, reference letters, achievements, and essays • Don’t wait until the last minute to contact someone for a reference letter • Request transcripts early and know who is responsible for transcripts at your school • A good resource to help you keep track of your high school accomplishments is Raise Me (https://www.raise.me/)

  12. Raise Me Micro-scholarships Raise Me will keep track of micro-scholarship opportunities for various schools. Many of these micro-scholarships are based on different accomplishments or activities from your high school career.

Be sure to answer the question that was asked Focus on strengths Turn weaknesses into success stories Use detailed, actual examples from your life Proofread, proofread, proofread – have someone else proofread it Tell a story Save and date every essay Open your essay with a quote Repeat your resume’ Have the exact same essay for every application – tailor your essays Use words new to you

Scholarships through the Foundation Application Deadline: Friday, March 29, 2019, 11:59 PM Raymond Gaines Scholarship - Award: $1,000.00Requirements: Graduating student must attend any Seminole County public high school; possesses a 3.0 or higher GPA; has been accepted to a 4-year college or university; will pursue a degree in education or an education-related field; and must have completed or in the process of completing 25 hours of community service. Each applicant must submit a 300 (maximum) word typed essay that describes why the applicant wants to enter the teaching profession, and present one letter of recommendation each from a high school and community leader. Dede Schaffner Scholarship – Award: $3,000.00 Requirements: Graduating senior of any Seminole County High School, who has an overall (weighted) GPA of 3.5. The student must be planning to attend an accredited 4-year college or university or technical program. Must have performed community service during his/her high school career. Must submit a 500-word essay on future plans. Student must show financial need. Student must have qualified to receive a Bright Futures Scholarship (75% or 100%). Must have an employment history. Also submit three letters of recommendation from teachers or administrative staff

  17. Foundation Scholarships (continued) Kuiper Scholarship - Award: $2,000.00Requirements: Graduating student of any Seminole County High School, who has an overall (weighted) 3.50 GPA. Each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation from teachers and/or administrative staff. Selection should be based on academic performance and financial need. Frank J. Bracco Memorial Scholarship - Award: $2,500.00Requirements: Graduating senior of any public high school in Seminole County who plans to enroll in a trade program or related field. The student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, write an essay on their career goals and provide three letters of reference.
