This study explores the transfer and retention rates of students in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), the largest community college district in the U.S. Historically, less than 3% of LACCD students transferred to CSU or UC systems in 1997. With a diverse student body where over half are female and more than three-quarters are ethnic minorities, the research involves a sample of 5,000 students across various courses. Key findings highlight impediments to achieving transfer goals and completion of degrees or vocational training.
