  1. Fundamentals I Lab Report Guidelines

  2. Lab Report Guidelines • Good communication skills are important in all aspects of life, including engineering careers! • In lab reports we expect you to clearly and accurately: • express basic engineering principles • describe your lab set-up, procedure & measurements • perform data analysis (simulated and/or measured) • present final data in a consistent and readable format • answer Analysis or Thought questions that may be in the lab procedure • discuss your observations and conclusions

  3. Lab Report Guidelines (cont’d) • Use a word processor to type your report. • Be sure to: • Use correct spelling and grammar • Use complete sentences • Be consistent with the guidelines • Be thorough • Do your own work (No plagiarism!) • Include a cover page with the following information: • Course number, lab section & course name • Lab Topic • Your name • Lab partner name • Instructor name • TA name • Date

  4. Cover Sheet Example • EE3201, Section 101 • Laboratory Fundamentals I • Lab Topic: Introduction to PSpice • Name: Luke Skywalker • Lab Partner: Han Solo • Instructor: Dr. Darth Vader • TA: C3PO • Date: October 1, 2019

  5. Lab Report Guidelines (cont’d) • Your report should include the following information: • Abstract • Introduction • Procedure • Pre-lab design and/or simulation results • Experimental results • Photos of lab work are encouraged, but should not be over-done or used to replace a summary of results or discussion. • Measured lab data in your report will be the same for lab partners, but all other material in your report should be your own work. • Answers to the Analysis questions (if any) • Answers to the Thought Questions (if any) • Discussion and Conclusions • References (if any)

  6. Lab Report Guidelines (cont’d) • Include all the material from your pre-lab report, but make any necessary corrections. • Discuss any discrepancies between hand calculations, simulations and experimental measurements. If you think one result is correct and another is incorrect, explain how you have come to that conclusion. • There is not a specific page requirement. Be concise, but thorough! • Upload an electronic copy of your lab report (Word file or pdf) to eLearning.
