Optimism • Relating to the future – • Pessimism- the tendency to see, anticipate, or emphasize only bad or undesirable outcomes, results, conditions, problems, etc. • Optimism- a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome. • Hope- the feeling that emerges from the optimistic lens of a better future • Confidence-belief in oneself and one's powers or abilities; self-confidence; self-reliance; self-efficacy.

  3. Optimism and Pessimism (Seligman) • Interpretation style • Permanent/temporary • Pervasive/specific • Mental/physical health • immune system • resilience • happiness • longevity • It can be learned!
