Turn toward pessimism Kayley Dipert
A girl with a perfect life • I had everything I could ever want: • A perfect family • A room full of toys • Nearly a million friends (Or so it seemed in the world of a small child) • To me, I owned the world. • The perfect shot at my own personal fairy-tale Disney princess ending.
I believed… • Parents are supposed to teach unconditional love. • Divorce only happens in the movies. • If you keep a positive outlook, everything will turn out perfectly in the end.
There comes a time in a person’s life …When everything changes.
Imagine smiling after a slap in the face. Then think of doing it twenty-four hours a day. Markus Zusak, The Book Thief
The “d” Word • Divorce • A snowy day in kindergarten, I fell in the snow and soaked my clothes. • Naturally, I did what any logical child would do: I called my parents. • But no one answered.
What is love? • Two loving parents • Someone to go to in your time of need • Trusting and believing in someone A LIE… • We are told to give us something to believe in. • Something no human being can truly provide.
They say 18 years is adulthood • For me, 12 is the true meaning of adulthood. • At 12 years old, I was able to stand up to my mother in court • I looked her in the eyes, stood with trembling legs behind the stand, and spoke with a soft tone: “My mother molested me.”
I lost everything Friends and family …And some of the animals that meant the world to me.
A person spends their entire life shaping it. • After 12 years, I had to start over, and this time, I wasn’t about to risk being hurt again. • Slowly, carefully, I began to shape my life from scraps. • This time, I was careful to be as picky as possible.
I included only those I truly cared about Pets A close group of friends Training horses
Once upon a time… • I surrounded myself with people.
My life motto now: Never trust a human being.
