  2. Mind Maps… Instead of looking at YBIL as a whole, we’re going to: BREAK IT DOWN!

  3. Mind Maps… • Break down texts into smaller sections • Help with comprehension of text • Help locate supporting evidence (essential information) • Organizes information • Prepares for rough draft

  4. Number your sections • Section 1: Paragraphs 1-3: Intro-My Plan • Section 2: Paragraphs 4-9: The Experiment-The Brain-Scanning Procedure • Section 3: Paragraphs 10-16: The Brain in Love-The Dopamine Mother Lode • Section 4: Paragraphs 17-21: The Drive to Love-Love’s Complex Chemistry

  5. Separate article into 4 sections • Focus on one section at a time. • When you do…forget the other sections, they don’t exist right now. It won’t hurt their feelings, you gotta do what you gotta do. Am I right or am I right? • For each section write: • What it’s about… the main points which are specific to section. • Write 3-4 bullet points for each section • You must completely understand the section, meaning you might want to re-read it and then read it…again. • Illustrate your Mind Map... Read instructions!

In your groups (pivot!) select a group “captain” • Captains: Not only do you ask the questions, but you are in charge of making sure each member of your group participates and comprehends the task at hand. • Questions/Prompts: • Discuss the information found in Section 1. What is it about? • On your maps, what information do we have that is the same? What information do we have that is different? • 9. Is there anything we need to change on our maps? Everyone needs to add one piece of information to their maps. • Are we confident with the information in section 1? What do we need to clarify as a group? • Write a question you have about the text and ask your group the question.
