Copy into journals: Learning Goal: students will research topics and concepts in order to create media literacy projects and teach the class using: fiction pieces, non-fiction pieces, song lyrics, and movie clips. November 14th 2013
What you should include on your teaching day: • An except from at least one fiction piece (a sample) (remember how Ms. Caldwell read her except aloud to the class; you can do it that way or a different way). • An except from at least one non-fiction piece (a sample from the text) • A song and lyrics (explain to the class why you chose the song; give examples connecting the song to your topic or concepts) • Movie/TV clips (use a clip to give the class a visual or mental model of the topic and concept)
Teaching Strategies: • Come up with a creative and engaging way to teach the class your topic! Each group will have 25 minutes to teach, so utilize that time! • You could give a quiz to assess what the class learned about your topic and concept!
You must have a formative assessment: • This means that you must have a way to prove what your students learned! You must come up with an activity that students can complete or participate in to prove what they learned from your teaching session! • Examples: exit task cards, quizzes, four corners, discussion, (think, pair, share, KWL, learning logs, thinking maps, etc.)
