This document outlines key points from the FIELDS Team meeting led by Keith Goetz at the University of Minnesota. Topics include connector specifications, system noise considerations, and alignment requirements for the boom subsystem. We discuss the need for precise 3D vector magnetic field measurements, with specific attention to frequency range, field intensity, cadence, sensitivity, and accuracy. Preliminary comments on environmental specifications and subsystem interface control documents (ICDs) are also mentioned. Community feedback is requested before the upcoming deadline.

FIELDS MAG Boom hinge SCM V5 MAGo MAGi
FIELDS MAG Sensors • Order is to be determined by FIELDS • Separation is important • Boom length maybe given • May not shrink • DC MAG Alignment • Z axes are co-linear and parallel to S/C Z (roll) axis • X axes are parallel and parallel to S/C X axis • Y axes are parallel and parallel to S/C Y axis • SCM Alignment • X, Y and Z axes are maximally un-aligned with S/C and MAG axes?
Array Noise Solar arrays will make noise Solar arrays will move as a function of solar distance Noise models give results that are not too bad – 2nT Noise from the array pair could be somewhat better one way that another based on identical array wiring or reversed array wiring FIELDS has a vote Where would we like our noise? X? Y? Z?
L3 DC MAG requirements As written, the DC MAG spec is inadequate MAG shall be capable of measuring 3D vector magnetic fields from SPP, as follows: -- frequency range: DC to greater than 100 Hz; -- maximum field intensity: -65000 to +65000 nT; -- cadence: up to 2x the highest frequency in vectors/sec; -- minimum sensitivity (excluding external noise sources) better than: 4 nT in 65000 nT range; 0.1 nT in 1000 nT range; -- accuracy: 5nT; -- in three orthogonal components. Accuracy should be? Vector accuracy of 1 degree? Maximum range ok? ±65knT? ±128knT?
