  6. Stimulants • Speed up the nervous system • Types • Methamphetamine • Amphetamine • Cocaine • Caffeine • Ephedrine

  7. Depressants • Slows down the nervous system • Types • Alcohol • Barbiturates • Tranquilizers • Rohypnol • Sedatives • GHB (Gamma Hydroxybutyrate)

  8. Inhalants • The effect is similar to alcohol, but unpredictable. • Delivery system is huffing or snorting • Types • Glue • Gasoline • Acetone • Nitrous oxide

  9. Hallucinogens (psychedelics) • Causes sensory, awareness, emotion, and perception distortion • Types • LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) • PCP (Phencyclidine Hydrochloride) • Peyote • Psilocybin • 2 C-B • Ketamine Hydrochloride (Special K or K) • Nutmeg

Herbal Substitutes • Combination of a variety of different herbs • Could have addition chemical applied to the mixture • Not regulated by government • JWH-018, JWH-073, JWH-200, CP-47,497, and cannabicyclohexanol • chemical component that cause marijuana like effects • Some of these chemicals are found in K 2

  13. Designer Drugs • Chemically designed or altered drug which produces the same effects as other drugs • Types • MDMA (ecstasy) • Synthetic Opiates • Hallucinogens – LSD and PCP • Stimulants • Depressants

  14. Prescription Drugs • Drugs prescribed by a doctor to a patient to treat certain condition • Examples • Lipitor • Hydrocodone • Ritalin • Adderall

  15. Over-Counter Drugs • Legal to purchase without prescription • Used to treat certain symptoms • Types • Analgesics • Cold and Allergy medicine • Antacids • Sleep aids • Herbal medicine • Stimulants • Weight Loss aids

  16. Tobacco • Acts as a stimulant and also has a calming effect • Nicotine • Oily compound, highly addictive • Types • Smoking tobacco • Smokeless tobacco • Electronic cigarette

  17. Ergogenic Aids • Enhances physical performance from increase speed, response time, or endurance • Types • Anabolic Steroids • Blood doping and EPO • Human Growth Hormone • Stimulants • Beta blockers
