COORDINATION WITH ENGG DEPT Engineering Department responsible for construction and maintenance of following assets - TRACK - BRIDGES - BUILDINGS & STRUCTURES Close coordination is required with the sister departments for construction & upkeep of assets Sonepur model for synergy between departments

  3. TRACK - Cable laying & crossings below or overhead track - Working in electrified sections. Indian Railway Permanent Way Manual (IRPWM) Chapter II – The maintenance of Permanent Way Part J – Maintenance in Electrified Areas Para 282 : General Instructions to Staff Defects or breakdown in OHE noticed to be reported to TPC.

  4. Para 283 : Special Instructions to Staff working in Traction Areas No work within 2 m. of live parts of OHE without PTW Para 284 : Maintaining continuity of track During maintenance or renewal of track, continuity of rails serving electrified tracts shall be maintained. Para 285 : Catch Sidings. Normally all catch sidings except those sanded shall be kept alive.

Para 286 : Additional Precautions in AC traction areas - Induction in metallic bodies situated close to OHE, unloading of rails Para 287 : Fire in Electrified Areas Para 288 : Permanent Way Tools – Insulated Para 289 : Treatment of persons suffering from Electrical Shocks Para 290 : Accident to Power Lines of outside bodies

  6. BRIDGES Electrified Section Care has to be taken while doing maintenance activities especially in through spans where OHE is suspended from the top of girder.

  7. BUILDINGS & STRUCTURES SERVICE BUILDINGS & STAFF QUARTERS - Lighting - Fan - Power Supply - Air conditioning, -Solar heating Proper planning and estimating for above items needs to be done whenever proposing ,sanctioning and executing the main works .

  8. WATER SUPPLY While planning and executing works for water supply ,electrical/diesel pumps required to be provided should be catered for in the estimates Indian Railways Works Manual Ch. V - Pumps Para 524 – Type & selection of pumps Para 525 – Pump Installation Para 526 – Driving units Para 527 – Capacity of pumps Allahabad division case study

  9. PASSENGER AMENITY WORKS • - Platform Shelter • Foot over bridges • Booking/Reservation/enquiry office • While planning passenger amenity works, electrical portion sub estimate should invariably be included in the main estimate. • While executing these works, proper planning and coordination is required to be done by the engineering department with the electrical dept.

  10. Tenders & contracts • Inviting composite tenders for building works providing for items pertaining to electrical sub estimate • Association in the Tender Committee as third member • Dissemination of policy circulars in the area of tenders and contracts
