This presentation discusses how Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) can revolutionize cataloging processes. Developed by IFLA, FRBR models bibliographic entities into work, expression, manifestation, and item groups. The FRBR Work-set Algorithm clusters records based on normalized author and title fields, enhancing cataloging efficiency. The presentation also explores FRBR Entity Levels and their impact on cataloging data, with a focus on sharing data elements across FRBR Work Sets. The speakers share insights from market research on what users and librarians desire in online catalogs and propose enhancements to WorldCat based on FRBR principles.
