  2. May meeting results • Submitted a presentation to the UK-RA on the 5 GHz band plan (00/106) • Received a liaison letter from ETSI-BRAN • Received the 5150-5250 MHz rules in Japan • Received a paper on sharing of RLANs with Earth Exploration Satellites Vic Hayes, Lucent Technologies

Activities since May 2000 • Presentation on UK 5 GHz band plan was given on June 2nd, 2000 • Report is in 00/sss • DFS and TPC is required for devices if they operate in Europe • Licensed band is required for Public Access Service providers • New Service Provider type for “Best-effort” is under study Vic Hayes, Lucent Technologies

  4. Activities since May 2000 • 5 GHz for License-exempt devices is on the WRC-2003 agenda • requires that we participate in the ITU-R activities to prepare the recommendations • requires wide level of support from industry Vic Hayes, Lucent Technologies

  5. Formalisation of rules • New rules in the IEEE, IEEE-USA and IEEE SA requires that we document our rules for preparation of submissions to Governmental bodies (includes ITU in my view • activity to be done in SEC first • may have to be recognised in WG rules Vic Hayes, Lucent Technologies

Work for this meeting • .Response to the ETSI BRAN group regarding the use of IEEE 802.11 with 802.11a in Europe, stating our plans to make an amendment to the standard for European regulations (Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) and Transmit Power control (TPC)) • .Submission to the US preparatory group for ITU-R SG8a/9B rapporteur, stating the parameters for Radio LANs to be used for interference scenarios with Satellite Earth Exploration services • .Possible preparatory work on possible reactions towards the following subjects to be approved at a tele-conference if the preparations were needed: • 1.FCC Docket 99-231, Wide-Band Frequency Hopping and DS testings • 2.FCC Docket 98-42. RF lighting devices in the 2.45 GHz band • 3.UK Radio Communications Agency band plan for 5 GHz Vic Hayes, Lucent Technologies
