Why should you learn about the layers of the rainforest? • The rainforest is a beautiful and mysterious ecosystem. • There is a lot that we do not know about rainforests. • But we do know about the layers and the difference between each layer, therefore giving you information on a very mysterious topic. • To be involved withlearning therainforest layers click the “next” button.

Layers of the Rainforest • Each layer has special characteristics • Each layer is different for the surrounding layers • Each layer depends on the different aspects of other layers • For example, animals need to eat plants and other animals from different layers than the one they normally live in.

  10. Emergent layer-Emily • The emergent layer is the tallest layer. • It includes the tree tops and everything from 130 to 160 feet in the air. • What kinds of animals do you think live in the emergent layer? • Elephants • Monkeys • Birds 160 ft 130 ft

  17. Forest Floor-Fiona • The forest floor is the bottom layer of the rainforest • The large animals that cannot leave the ground are considered part of this layer. • For example: Soil Layer Elephants Jaguars

  18. Forest Floor-Fiona • Only 2% of sunlight reaches the forest floor because of all the trees • The forest floor is warm and humid with a lot of fungi • Decaying plant and animal matter is common to the floor Soil Layer
