What is LEADER? • LEADER is a European Union and Scottish Government funded Programme supporting innovative and sustainable local rural development projects that promote economic and community development in rural areas. • LEADERis part of the wider Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP) a £1.6 billion programme of economic, environmental, and social measures designed to develop rural Scotland up to and including the year 2013. RURAL TAYSIDE LEADERPROGRAMME 2007-13 Total budget of £5 million • £2 million from EU and Scottish Government • £3 million match funding comes from local partners and applicant organisations So far: • 58 projects approved • £707,000 LEADER grant approved • £1,856,000 total eligible costs of projects

RURAL TAYSIDE LEADERPROGRAMME 2007-13GRANTS • Up to 90% of total eligible costs for capital and revenue projects – only during 2010 • 5% of total eligible project should be met by the applicant (cash and/or in kind) • Minimum grant request is £1,000 • Maximum project length is 18 months (projects running over more than 18 months will be asked to apply in stages) • Match funding must not come from another European Union source

Speak to LEADER staff at the enquiry stage to get help! • Use the LEADER staff! We’re here to help! • LEADER only pay in arrears, so have a plan for your cashflow • LEADER will ask for a lot of information so use the folder you get once your project is approved – and when it’s full, we’ll give you another one! • Avoid online banking, LEADER wants to see original bank statements
