  1. About DPOD Umbrella organisation since 1934. 32 member organisations - with more than 320,000 members - representing all types of disabilities.

  2. Aims • The aim of DH is to promote cooperation among national organisations working for the prevention and combating of physical and psychological disabilities deriving from congenital diseases, illness and accidents, and the consequences of disability.

  3. Membership requirements Nationwide. Minimum 500 members. Managed by persons with disabilities or their relatives. Disability organisation. Small disability groups may be admitted as group members.

  4. Shared house • In 2012 19 out of a total of 32 organisations moved together into in new headquarters just outside Copenhagen. The new DPOD headquarters are designed with the very best in accessibility, featuring state of the art solutions in all areas.

  5. What does DPOD do? • Work on disability policy, covering all aspects of society. • Nationally: Parliament, government and the ministries - hearings, meetings, representation on councils, boards, committees etc. • Locally: Municipalities and regions - all the local councils, boards and commitees etc. • Internationally: the EU, the UN and development work.

  6. Rights based • DPOD is a rights-based organisation working for the inclusion of people with disabilities. We believe that exercising your rights is a prerequisite for inclusion. • This means that DPOD bases its efforts on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

  7. Representation • The Danish Disability Council. • The National Complaints Board on Social Matters. • Employment Council. • The National Complaints Board on Medical Treatment. • Other councils, boards and commissions appointed by ministries. • The European Disability Forum. • Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

  9. Local branches As a member of a disability organisation you are affiliated to a local section or a local association. DPOD has a branch in every municipality (with the exception of Læsø). The branches consist of representatives from local sections and associations of the organisations. The active people in the branch are local persons with disabilities and their relatives. The branch appoints representatives to local councils, boards and commissions.

Economy • For its own operations DPOD has a yearly budget of DKK12 million. • DPOD runs a number of time-limited projects with external funding – and has a budget of c.DKK 11 million. • DPOD administers funding on the development area for c.DKK 25 million. • DPOD has a total annual budget of c.DKK 48 million.

  14. Finances • General operations are mainly covered by funding from the State Lottery (meetings, conferences, courses, staff). • In addition income derives from dues etc. • DPOD does not apply to foundations and trusts. • Currently, the funds for time-limited projects come from The Ministry of Employment and The Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration. • All funds for development work come from Danida.

  15. Local funding • There is a branch in every municipality. • The branches receive operational grants from DPOD on application. • The branches can apply for funds from the local municipality.
