  5. DEDUCTIVE SUMMARY….HUMAN LANDSCAPE UG, over the last 50 years has been the flagship human resources institution in Guyana. UG now has to transform and re-engineer itself to effectively meet the current and future challenges of national development and nation building. Visionary leadership, a transformation of its operating culture, the appropriate improvement and remuneration of its human assets, the appropriate partnerships/ strategic alliances and buy-in will lead to mission success.

ECONOMIC LANDSCAPE LEADERSHIP STUDENTS RESOURCES STAFF Need for a wide variety of skills for National Development Guyana’s GDP growth is influenced by UG’s capacity to provide relevant skills, aptitude, etc. UG has unique opportunity to be the pivotal Developmental Institution UG’s economic viability will determine if National priorities will be met Better salaries , QA and Governance will enable UG To meet its national obligations UG needs to be closely aligned with the Private Sector, Government & other key stakeholders Guyana is blessed with a tremendous amount of natural resources which can underpin its economic advancement EMPOWERING GUYANESE PEOPLE TO EMPOWER THEMSELVES

  7. DEDUCTIVE SUMMARY….ECONOMIC LANDSCAPE UG IS ESSENTIAL TO GUYANA'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. THE MAJOR CHALLENGES ARE IN THE AREAS OF QUALITY ASSURANCE (QA) FINANCIAL CAPACITY AND INTERNAL REFORMS TO ENSURE NATIONAL RELEVANCE.

UG needs “thought leaders” to assist in Redefining and Reforming Education Guyana’s Global Economic Ascendancy is at Risk if there is no Viable learning Environment UG must provide the future with architects of sustainable economic development UG needs to Develop Ethical & committed Leadership , as Well as loyal and Global citizens The end result of a UG education must also be exemplary character, respect For cultural diversity And desire to serve humanity UG’s evaluation of Competencies Must be relevant And enhancing EMPOWERING GUYANESE PEOPLE TO EMPOWER THEMSELVES

  9. DEDUCTIVE SUMMARY….EDUCATIONAL LANDSCAPE UG NEEDS TO BE PRO-ACTIVE IN HELPING TO DEFINE GUYANA'S EDUCATION SYSTEM AND BY BEING THE “THOUGHT LEADER” IN GUYANA. UG ALSO HAS TO BE THE LEADING EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION IN GUYANA BY ESPOUSING THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF PROFESSIONALISM, ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY

TECHNOLOGICAL & INFRASTRUCTURE LANDSCAPE LEADERSHIP STUDENTS RESOURCES STAFF UG needs to diversify and Re-design its Teaching and learning environment New technologies And New Teaching methods Are needed Transformation Must be Technical, Cultural , and Psychological Modern libraries, a Healthy environment, Functional utilities and Modern infrastructure Are all necessary Ingredients of an 'empowering‘ space. The campusmust not forget the sense of a vision, values and mission Driven institution. An enabling environment is central to students and staff productivity ICT technologies are rapidly changing the way teaching institutions approach knowledge EMPOWERING GUYANESE PEOPLE TO EMPOWER THEMSELVES

  11. DEDUCTIVE SUMMARY….TECHNICAL AND INFRASTRUCTURAL LANDSCAPE THE UNIVERSITY OF GUYANA HAS TO INCORPORATE NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND BE THE “LEADER” IN TRANSFORMING GUYANA’S EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT. THIS NEED IS CRITICAL TO THE UNIVERSITY OF GUYANA’S REBRANDING OF ITSELF AND TO ITS COST PERFORMANCE. UG'S REPOSITIONING OF ITSELF BEGINS WITH 'SIGHT AND SITE MANAGEMENT'. ITS PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE MUST EMPOWER AND INSPIRE.

POLITICAL LANDSCAPE LEADERSHIP STUDENTS RESOURCES STAFF UG needs to Enjoy academic Autonomy and Freedom from political interference and Intellectual constraints Political Leadership needs To understand UG’s pivotal National Development role Transformation can only occur in a supportive Political climate RESPECT RESOURCES REALIGNMENT. UG must provide the Nation’s workforce for global competitiveness. An enabling environment is central to students and staff productivity An inclusive political system is Central to Guyana’s Nation building process EMPOWERING GUYANESE PEOPLE TO EMPOWER THEMSELVES

DEDUCTIVE SUMMARY….POLITICAL LANDSCAPE THE UNIVERSITY OF GUYANA NEEDS TO REFORM ITS GOVERNANCE ARRANGEMENTS, MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE AND GENERAL BUSINESS MODEL IF IT IS TO PLAY ITS CENTRAL ROLE IN NATION BUILDING. THE UNIVERSITY OF GUYANA HAS TO CHANGE FROM WITHIN AND TO RE-BRAND ITSELF IN ORDER TO ATTRACT THE NECESSARY RESOURCES FOR MISSION DIRECTED SUCCESS

Courses must Reflect The needs of students and society. A university’s BRAND Is it’s competitive advantage Competition is a way of life in all spheres of life EMPOWERING GUYANESE PEOPLE TO EMPOWER THEMSELVES

  16. SUMMARY OF KEY CONCLUSIONS HUMAN: Guyana needs a large skilled , appropriate, workforce if it is to develop in a sustainable manner. ECONOMIC : Guyana is blessed with a tremendous amount of natural resources which can underpin its economic ascendency. EDUCATIONAL: Illiteracy threatens Guyana’s development, socially, culturally and economically POLITICAL : UG’ s management structure has to be free of political interference as it recognizes an all inclusive political system is essential for Guyana’s sustainable development. TECHNOLOGICAL: New teaching approaches embracing new ICT technologies are essential for productivity and effectiveness. COMPETITIVE: Competition is a way of life in all spheres of the education market hence UG has to have a competitive visionary and evolutionary genetic makeup
