  2. Definition • Music can be defined as the harmony between the sounds of vocals and/or instruments. The combination of sound is able to produce beauty and emotional expression.

  3. The Piano The piano is a classical example of a musical instrument. It is a highly versatile instrument, which is capable of playing in a variety of genres. The piano produces sound when its keys are depressed. The depression causes a hammer to hit a metal string, causing the strings to vibrate. It has a variety of keys, of which 52 are white and 36 are black.

  4. The sax The saxophone is a member of the woodwind family. Commonly seen in jazz. The saxophone is a widely popular instrument. Sound is created by passing air over a wooden reed causing it to oscillate. The pitch of the sound can then be changed through the use of various open and closed key holes.

  5. The voice This is the first and most popular musical instrument in the history of the world. It is also by far the most versatile instrument. Due to it being able to fit into any genre without difficulty.

  6. Music notation Music notation is a system used to visually represent the timing and pitch of different notes through the use of various symbols.
