  4. Uses Of Computers InHam Radio Today • Database (callbook automation) • Client Server • Logbook of the world (ARRL feature) • Local databases and programs (i.e., log-eqf) • Lots of free software and features like: • Callbook lookup (CD ROM) when callsign entered • Short/long path direction from geographic location • Contest logging and calculations • Minimum requirements of FCC met • OSCAR locating (Kiplerean elements)

  5. Uses Of Computers InHam Radio Today (Cont) • Echolink (similar to Yahoo voice chat) • Separate database with ham radio callsigns as the locator. • Started out as a voice chat and later added xmitters at the computer. • Still in use with just the computers, but also accessible to trojans, hackers, etc.

  6. IRLP • IRLP (Internet Radio Linking Project) • Uses a dedicated transmitter, connected to a dedicated computer (Linux), connected to a broadband internet connection • A simple hand held transceiver, transmits on the IRLP frequency, and the IRLP node receives the signal, accepts the four digit code, does a DNS lookup, and connects to the other node in Lansing Michigan • VOIP then goes back and forth in the radio network.
