How are Golf Balls are made • The core of the golf ball is made out of pure rubber that is heated and pressurized into a ball that is 1 ½ inches in diameter, for both golf balls. • the ionomer cover is applied to both golf balls, except for a three-piece golf ball, for which after the rubber placed, a layer of rubber thread around the core of the golf ball, then the ionomer cover is applied to the three-piece golf ball

  3. How Golf Balls are made (cont.) • The cover of the golf ball is applied to the core through a process called "compression molding." During this process, two semicircle molds with the dimples already set into the mold are placed around the core. The molds are set together using heat and pressure to create a seamless mold around the golf ball core. The ionomer plastic cover in liquid form is injected into the mold and left to cool and settle.

Current golf balls are made in two pieces, or three. • The two-piece is the easiest to make, as one ball takes less than a day to make, as the three-piece can take up to 30 days just to make one ball.

What is a Golf Ball made of? • Both two piece and three piece golf balls have the same core, which is rubber. • After the rubber, the golf balls are covered with a plastic cover molding with little holes on it (which is called dimples) • The three piece golf balls have smaller rubber and plastic molding, and a liquid filled center
