  6. Education LaKeshia attended Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Decatur, GA. The curriculum fulfills the requirements of all accreditation regulations and is a blend of theoretical and practical fundamentals of the funeral profession, as well as the liberal arts. She also holds a B.S. in Human Resource Management and a B.S. in Business Administration Management
  7. A “typical day at work There is no such thing as a typical day at Walker Funeral Service…life in the funeral business is very unpredictable. Although LaKeshia strives to maintain regular structured days, the uncertainty of when death occurs plays a tremendous role in the organization of her day. Typically she tries to maintain regular office hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as much as possible but a disadvantage of the work day is that there is always “subject to change”. For example, at 5:30 a.m. just the other morning she received a call from the answering service indicating that she had an expiration or “death call” at a local hospital so that is when her day began. Now she must rearrange her day’s plans to include or schedule a time to meet with the descendant's family and begin all preliminary administrative duties and not to mention providing care of the deceased.

A typical funeral day 8:00 a.m. start time Get the cars detailed (lead car, hearse, limos) Load all necessary equipment to take to service location or set up in the Funeral Home’s chapel Load and transport deceased in hearse Set up equipment at the funeral location Pick up the family of the deceased Direct funeral service Depart to the final place of disposition

  14. Would I recommend this job and why? Yes. Being a Funeral Director takes a special type of person who doesn't mind working 24/7. You must have the ability to… Handle the remains of the deceased (embalming) Deal with the families Process paper work—life insurance policies, state agencies Order caskets, urns, tombstones As a Funeral Director you are hands on from the moment you receive a death call until the deceased is laid to rest
