Studies on Acid Formation via Resonance-Enhanced Multiphoton Ionization (REMPI) of HCl and H2O

This study explores the mechanisms of acid formation through resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) of HCl in the presence of water. The reaction pathways of HCl and H2O interact to form hydronium ions (H3O+) and chloride ions (Cl-), observing various multiphoton transitions. The (2+1) REMPI spectra were recorded to analyze the excitation energies and identify the contributions of complex ion formation with water molecules. Insights into the energetics and dynamics of associated species, such as HCl*(g) and H+(aq), are discussed to understand their role in acid formation.
