  1. Nuclear Power Michelle Field www.flicker.com

  2. Pros: Nuclear power does not cause atmospheric pollution. It also does not contribute to potential global warming. Cons: Nuclear power creates radioactive waste. Nuclear is a dangerous form of energy and could contribute to the threat of an outbreak of nuclear weapons and nuclear war. Pros and Cons

  3. Source of Nuclear Power: • Nuclear power comes from many nuclear power plants located around the world.  • Nuclear energy comes from uranium that is refined and used to produce nuclear power. images.google.com

  4. How does Nuclear Power Work...? • Nuclear energy is created by the nucleus of an atom being split or broken apart and energy being released. When this happens a slow-moving neutron is released to split a uranium atom. Each split uranium atom then gives off three more neutrons plus two hydrogen atoms. These new neutrons go on to split other uranium atoms creating a chain reaction.

  5. Additional Information • In the U.S, nuclear power controls close to 20% of the electricity. • The first application of nuclear energy was used in world war 2 with the dropping of the atomic bomb. • Doctors use nuclear energy in the form of radioisotopes to locate tumors, treat thyroid irregularities, and to study and treat cancer. www.flicker.com
