  1. GCSE Science Science courses at GCSE are all with the exam board AQA The courses followed in Year 10 include: Biology 4401 (syllabus code) Chemistry 4402 Physics 4403 Science A (Core) 4405 Each of these courses leads to 1 GCSE Students not following the Separates route will follow the Additional Science course in Year 11. This is also equivalent to 1 GCSE

  2. Separate Science is examined in: May and June 2017 All exams will be taken (Biology 1, 2, 3 and coursework, Chemistry 1, 2, 3 and coursework and Physics1, 2, 3 and coursework) 9 written exams in total There is an option to do Core, Additional and Further Additional Science (please see a member of the Science Department) Science A is examined in: May 2016 (at the end of Year 10) (Biology 1, Chemistry 1, Physics 1 and Controlled assessment) 3 written exams in total Students who miss the Core exams will be expected to take them in Year 11 – students will then have 6 Science exams, instead of 3 Examinations

  3. All examinations are 60 minutes in duration • Each exam is worth 25% of the final GCSE (all pupils will take 3 exams per course) • Students can take Higher tier papers (A*- D) or Foundation tier papers (C – G) • Controlled assessments make up the last 25%. These are carried out in school under controlled conditions and will be completed in the Spring term • It is essential that pupils attend their Science Controlled Assessment day, as this is the only opportunity to complete this section of the GCSE Science course Examinations and Assessment

  4. The AQA website for past papers is a useful resource • The AQA website also has the specifications for the content required • BBC Bitesize GCSE Science has been updated to include the new content • Any Science revision guide that contains the courses for examination from 2014 is appropriate. CGP seemed to be the most user friendly • Revision/intervention sessions will be hosted by the Science Department after school on:- Monday – Biology Wednesday – Physics Thursday - Chemistry We really appreciate your support in encouraging your child to make the most of what is on offer to ensure maximum potential is achieved in Science Revision Guidance and Sessions
