  1. 4C’s Promotion Webinar Presenters: Maureen Chalmers (NWCC) and Terry Delaney(TRCC)

  2. Overview of the Process and Timeline • Oct. 1: President publishes list of those with 3 years of service. • Others may apply if they have met the requirements for promotion. No waiver is required. In your application, you will have to show that you have done "something" that makes you worthy of promotion--and this "something" must have been done since your last promotion. • Jan. 5: Promotion Applications Due • March 1: Promotion Committee makes recommendation • March 15: Supervising Dean makes recommendation • April 15: President makes final decision

  3. Your Rights if decisions don’t go your way • You can appeal procedural violations by the Promotions Committee within 10 days of the Committee’s recommendation. • You can submit a written response to the Supervising Dean if he or she recommends against promotion. Your response goes to the President with the Dean’s recommendation. • You can apply again next year. The process require the President to provide you with a written list of areas that need improvement. Here’s your road map to promotion next year.

  4. Remember to Read Article XII of our Contract for a further explanation of the promotion process.

  5. Your Professional File is Important • Your file accompanies your application, so make sure you know what is in it! • What should be in there? General evaluations, classroom evaluations, student ratings, notes from college committees, college merit awards, additional responsibilities proposals, disciplinary records, and other college documents • Request that items be added. These may include community awards, published materials, thank you notes for speaking engagements, and so forth. • Submit your own written response to anything negative in your file.

  6. Filling Out Your Application • Include accomplishments that happened since your previous promotion. Do not include activities that predate your last promotion. • Some places to look for information: • Professional File • End of Year Reports • Supervisor Evaluations • Student Evaluations • Job Description • Additional Responsibilities • Calendars or Journals • Professional Development Plans • Awards & Recognition

  7. Add Appendices for Materials that are not in your Professional File • Some members include appendices of materials that are not in their professional files. These might include letters from students, letters of appreciation from colleagues or outside agencies, any manuals or reports they have written, any publicity received, agendas from conferences attended, transcripts of courses taken, and so forth.

What activities have you undertaken to maintain contact with your discipline or to develop knowledge in your field or specialty?

  11. Faculty Application (continued) B. Other Assignments 1. List the college committees on which you have served and briefly describe your work on them. 2. List any student club or organization advisor-ships and describe your work in this role. 3. Have you developed any new instructional techniques, course offerings, or programs. 4. In what community service activities of the college have you participated as part of your regular assignment (not for additional pay)? 5. Indicate any other college service not covered above which you wish to have considered by those reviewing this application.

  12. Faculty Application (to Associate Professor or Professor) • Supplemental Information to be completed by those seeking promotion to Professor or Associate Professor1. Cite any evidence of your demonstrated growth and effectiveness in community service.2. Have you engaged in any professional development activities other than those indicated in A3 above?3. Outline briefly and specifically your overall contribution to the college. (Attach additional sheet if more space is required). • Supplemental Information to be completed by those seeking promotion to the rank of Professor.1. Provide evidence of effective academic leadership.
