  1. Landform Matching Picture and Defintion • Archipelago - a group or chain of islands clustered together in a sea or ocean • Bay – a body of water that is partially enclosed by land

  2. Canyon - a large crack in the earth formed by a river or earthquakes

  3. Canyon • Channel - a body of water that connects two larger bodies of water • Delta - low, watery land formed at the mouth of a river

  4. Desert - an area of land which is very dry, little rain falls, and few plants and animals are able to exist • Glacier - a slowly moving river of ice formed by the collection of snow over many, many years on mountains or near the poles • Island – an area of land completely surrounded by water

  5. Isthmus – a narrow strip of land that connects two larger pieces of land • Peninsula - a strip of land that extends out into a body of water • Mountain - a large, tall, rocky area of land that comes up out of the earth’s surface

  6. Plateau - a large area of flat land that is raised higher than the land around it • Reef - jagged rock, coral, or sand just above or below the surface of the sea

  7. River - a large, flowing body of water that usually empties into a sea or ocean • Tributary - stream or river that flows into a larger river • Sound - a large sea or ocean inlet

  8. Valley -an area of low land between two mountains or hills Volcano - a mountainous vent in the Earth's crust. When it erupts, it spews out lava, ashes, and hot gases from deep inside the Earth.

  9. Waterfall - where a river falls off steeply • Wetland - an area of land where the soil has a lot of water in it and/or sitting on top of it – a swamp is a type of this landform.
