  2. Opening Moves • Americans advance on the British line at Lundy’s Lane • British Cannons beat off the attack • British redeploy, but the Americans catch them • British Rally

  3. American Reinforcements • American Reinforcements arrive • Americans distract British troops while the main body attacks the British guns • British retreat

  4. British Reinforcements • British reinforcements arrive • They, too, are beaten back • Drummond (British) tries 3 times to re-take the guns, but is unsuccessful.

  5. Scott’s Battalion • Both sides are exhausted • In the confusion, both sides end up firing on their own troops • Winfield Scott and “Scott’s Battalion” earn great credit for bravery, but end up pinned down by their own side.

  6. Final Manoevers • Americans withdraw • British are too tired to stop them • British have the field, but they didn’t really win the battle

  7. Statistics • Victory for: Indecisive (a draw) • Casualties: • British – 84 dead, 559 wounded, 193 missing, 42 captured • Americans – 171 dead, 572 wounded, 110 missing, 7 captured

  8. Significance of the Battle • Americans retreated all the way to Fort Erie • Bloodiest battle of the war • Last American invasion of Canada • Peace talks begin in earnest after this battle
